Recruitment in the UK during Recession!!!

Recruitment process during this recession or credit crunch time which could be helpful for overseas people who are looking out for jobs in the UK.

It’s a frustrating market for people who are looking to come over to the UK with a valid work permit or Tier-1 Visa unless your skills are very demanding. To begin with start doing some market research within your domain and find the skills shortage before applying for any jobs in the UK. Even if you find a lot of openings for your skills on the job boards, it is better to speak to the relevant job consultant about that specific opportunity. Clear-up your mind by asking your consultant plenty of questions like how long have they been looking for that skills? Is it actually a live job?? What is the process going to be if you are an overseas applicant? etc,.

Networking is the key to find out how the market condition is for your skills so it is better talking to at least 2 or 3 consultants and also you will get to know if you can able to find yourself an opportunity here. Credit crunch actually made a lot of people redundant which created a lot of candidates as well making things worse than ever before. It is going to be bit more competitive market as companies are trying to take the best candidates available in the market by taking a lot of time interviewing. They also prefer to take on candidates who are already in the UK for interviews rather spending more money in getting candidates from the overseas. You need to ask yourself a question if you are competitive enough to secure a job before making a move else its going to be a waste of time and money as well.

If you’re an overseas candidate you really need to look in to these scenarios as well. It will be seriously very difficult for someone to leave your current job and come to the UK in the look out for jobs. Plan your trip only if you have got a plenty of cash to survive until you find a position.

My suggestion is to hire a recruitment consultant who can look after you really well. It is better to stick with one person when talking to the companies to avoid duplication of your profile to the same companies.

Historically most of the UK based companies were happy to sponsor work permit for overseas candidate if they’re is exemplary when compared to people in the EU (European Union) but things have been changed recently because of the credit crunch. If you’re looking for company sponsorship that is not going to happen in this current climate and even if they do chances are very less. The reason being very simple as there are plenty of candidates who are recently chucked out from most of the technology companies and applicants within the UK & European Union. So if you want to go ahead in the route of work permit sponsorship you will end up in wasting your time. The best solution is to do a market research for your skills and if there are plenty of prospects you can go ahead in applying for Tier-1 Visa to get to your dream job come true.
